India’s middle order batsman Virat Kohli was fined 50% of his match fee after he made a finger gesture to the crowd at Sydney Cricket Ground on Day 2.

As Aussies went on to post 366 runs for the loss of only one wicket on Day 2 of the second Test match at Sydney, it frustrated Virat Kohli that forced him to show his middle finger to the crowd and subsequently received a level-two offence sanction by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

India team media manager G S Walia said, Kohli has been informed of the charges on Thursday and had pleaded guilty for making such a gesture.

“The matter has been sorted out… the player felt guilty and sorry and the matter has been closed,” Walia told reporters.

“When he went to the match referee, he said sorry and also confessed that out of emotions ‘I must have done it’.”
