Ahmedabad: Space-O Technologies, a service based IT company from Ahmedabad has won first prize at the AppFest 2013 Hackathon held at IIM, Ahmedabad during 26-28 July, 2013. More than 50 teams from all over India including Coimbatore, Madras, Chennai, Surat and Rajkot were participating in the competition. And from more than 65 apps made in the competition, app called Book Barter from the team of Space-O Technologies has won the first prize of Rs.75,000.
Two teams were participating from Space-O Technologies, and one of them has won the first prize. To moralize teams, company has predeclared that whichever team will win first prize at Hackathon will become equity partner in their product. Winning team was having three android developers- Amit Patolia, Tarun Patel, Nisarg Patel, one database/ backend developer- Gaurang Bhatt and a graphic designer- Vijay Prajapati.
“We gave the world very large portal inside IIM! We designed whole portal on book exchange from the scratch. My team worked on the portal for continuous 24 hours without even taking a break. It was pretty challenging for us to develop an app with more than 10,000 lines of codes in a day, but my team deed it anyway. And we won Hackathon in AppFest 2013.” said Rakesh Patel (Co-founder, Space-O Technologies).
Asking about the competition, Rakesh said that- “To be honest my heartbeat had increased at the time of declaration of the result, as the competition was very tough. Every team had worked hard on their products.”
“There was a lot of debating among the jury about who would get the first price and one of them said, Space-O is like the IBM and Microsoft of the AppFest2013. Very structured and great teamwork. Amazing team!”, Utpal Vaishnav (Co-founder, Space-O Technologies) shared his experience at AppFest.
On feasibility of the app Utpal said- “To check the feasibility of the concept, as a part of development we conducted a survey of 106 users and concluded from the results that, there are 6200+ books available for barter exchange in the IIM itself right now! Commercial value of those books are more than 18 lakhs.”
On the second day of competition, two guys Utpal Vaishnav and Jigar Pandya from Space-O also won goodies from AppFest 2013 for the best quality tweets on #appfest2013 hashtag contest.
