Ahmedabad: City based company Abellon ClearEnergy has set up a solar project “Solar Agro-Electric Model” which is selected as one of the 17 finalists in “Power-Gen Project of the Year Awards”, an international honor.
The company has set up pilot solar power project to harness the abundantly available solar radiation on the earth. The project is spread across 17.5 acres of land and utilizes multi crystalline silicon panels, with the capacity to power thousands of rural households. It has a potential of reducing 1 lakh tonnes of CO2 over 25 years vis-a-vis fossil fuels.
Abellon is also working to develop innovative solutions such as cutting edge technologies to enhance efficiencies, improve cost benefit, and raise acceptance of this critical energy source for diverse industrial and domestic applications.
About the Project
Solar Agro-Electric Model is a 3MW solar power project that covers 17.5 acres of land & utilizes multi crystalline silicon panels which power thousands of rural households with potential of reducing 1 lakh tonnes of CO2 over 25 years vis-a-vis fossil fuels. The project addresses food & energy security on the same land by harnessing solar radiation on solar panels to produce electricity and on the photosynthesis platform for by growing vegetables, spices and fruits under solar panels. Combination of solar energy generation and cultivation of certain select species, optimizes key resources like land & water, converts biomass residues into compost/fodder/energy, and enhances productivity of agricultural produce and solar infrastructure. Rural community gets job opportunity for agricultural activities under solar panels thereby the project anchors socio-economic and environmental benefits to local community.
Globally organizations are working on combination technologies to enhance outputs and optimize utilization of increasingly scarce resources. Abellon has attempted this innovation, which will be a role model globally for others to follow.
