He is a co-founder and CEO of Serve Happiness, a social enterprise channeling volunteer energy for social good. Nitin has previously spent time in both technology startup and social sector as well in academia. Have a look at the talk we had with Nitin.
Who is Nitin Tailor? Why we are taking your interview?
Having born and brought up in a middle class family of small and beautiful town in Bharuch, Gujarat I have always been absorbed to do something dynamic for the society and particularly involve like-minded enthusiasts to make a difference.
I got awarded the Linnaeus Palme Scholarship for my selection as an international student at Malmo University, Sweden among 200 students across the world. I was actively involved in all the major international conference and social events held at my college.
I have worked in academia as lecturer in Gujarat in various Engineering/MCA colleges after my graduation. I also worked with some well known Startup companies in Sweden and Bangalore after my M. Tech (IT).
I always find happiness while working towards bringing change in people’s lives with practical solutions. Taking first steps towards this I took plunge and have started working as social entrepreneur to create value for society and make the difference. I had setup a NGO HMP Foundation under guidance of some prominent personalities of India to improve health and education for the poor people using the latest technology in rural parts of my district Bharuch in Gujarat, India. It was a challenging task for me as I was working in different sectors but I found happiness after setting up good foundation which today runs free medical clinic and education center serving thousand of poor people in surrounding area in Piraman Village, Ankleshwar near Bharuch.
What is Serve Happiness? Tell us more about it.
Serve Happiness is a platform where social organizations or NGOs can list their needs for volunteers and people interested to contribute can get the information and listings about events happening for a cause. With this platform, Serve Happiness aims to raise the happiness quotient by creating a culture of giving back to the society.
Serve Happiness is a Not for Profit Section 25c company under Indian act.
How did you initiate Serve Happiness? What’s the story behind this venture?
A small idea can bring a big smile to somebody’s face. A good gesture, which does not cost you, anything has the power of making somebody’s days. Contrary to the prevalent view that the world is turning materialistic by the day and people want to collect things but not give back; we all hear or overhear somebody or the other saying that they want to give back to the society.
On one hand there are people who want to use their spare time, their knowledge, their capabilities and their capacities to help others and on the other hand there is a very clear need of this volunteered help. Then what keeps them from contributing their time for the betterment of society and help the less privileged? More often than not people find themselves not knowing how can they do it.
I am always passionate about to discuss creative ideas and to make those ideas into implementation to improve our society. Moving in same direction surprisingly I met AnugrahAgrawal, M.Tech (IIT-BHU), Co-Founder, Serve Happiness at Startup 2020 event by NASSCOM Foundation at IIM Ahmedabad on 3-5 May and we discussed on this idea of Serve Happiness and started working and we got first prize. We decided to carry further this idea and currently we both are working full time on this.
Have you been appreciated by any media/ government/ organization?

How did you manage fund? How much time it took to convert your idea into reality?
Currently we are self-funded. It’s been 3 month we are working on this idea and so far got good presence in media and communities in colleges and NGOs.
Which difficulties you faced while creating Serve Happiness?
This decision, however, was not an easy one for me to leave good paying job and start something which is not to make money but to create positive impact in society. It was burdened by the apprehensions of my family, by financial constraints, marriage decision. Fears projected by other people always disappointed me. But at them same time reading swami Vivekananda and APJ Kalam’s books encourage me to continue contributing my work for society. People/relatives used to call me insane sometime as I m not doing job after my M.Tech in MNC but was working in a village to set up an NGO to improve poor people’s health and education.
It was Buddha who said, “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”
I am inspired with this quote and started my journey of being a social entrepreneur. So far the journey of serving happiness is quite interesting and inspiring. I am visiting and travelling around the India to get connected with good NGOs , people to spread the word of Serve Happiness. I am getting very positive response.
People like this idea and are eager to Serve Happiness by volunteering.
Challenge is inevitable and now I am used to that and frankly speaking now I can’t imagine my life without challenges.
Getting funds is the biggest challenge for us as this project is more about creating positive impact in society rather to just make money. Another major challenge is to spread awareness about volunteering and make people understand to contribute their leisure time for a good social cause as people are more busy with their life. But still there are people in this world who are passionate to help others we want to give them a platform to help other needy people.
What’s your Future plan?
Currently we have just started our operation in Bharuch, Gujarat but we are looking to expand our operation all around the globe by making presence in every corner and to connect every NGOs on Serve Happiness.
What else you do except Serve Happiness?
Except Serve Happiness I am a Start up Leader in OpenFuel.org. We used to promote entrepreneurship culture among youth by organizing Entrepreneurship workshops and event across Gujarat and other places.
I also used to deliver expert talks in Colleges and schools about social entrepreneurship to motivate students to use their knowledge to improve our society and nation.
What is the aim of your life?
It was Buddha who said, “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.
History demonstrates effectively that individuals who took their own path, who listened to their inner callings despite the current norms Society, were empowered with the ability to affect real change around them. These were the people who did not take ‘no’ for an answer, who were compelled to find new answers to old questions. We might not all be able to go down in history and become prolific game-changers, but we can all certainly learn the value of listening to our inner voices.
I have just started this project with the thought of helping society in a global way. We have overheard this conversation many a times, “I want to do something for the society but don’t know how we can contribute”. We tried to give an answer to such people by creating this platform and just helping them with their search for happiness.
Today everyone is running behind job after completing their studies, those who already have a job are running behind promotion and more offers. But in this race we are forgetting that our role in this world is not restricted to only ourselves but we also have to contribute to our society, culture, and our country. Education should not be just to make money but your knowledge/work should create positive impact in society.
My goal in LIFE is to create value for society as a Social Entrepreneur.
Give a message to our readers and Upcoming Entrepreneurs.
Today in this material world everyone is running behind money, name and fame. But in this race we are forgetting that our role in this world is not restricted to only ourselves but we also have to contribute to our society, culture, our country. The real goal of education is not merely to get the job and make money but to create positive impact/value in society.
My message to all budding entrepreneurs and readers is listen to your inner calling and follow your passion in your LIFE and make your LIFE meaningful in this world. Try to use your knowledge to solve problems in society and nation and make this world better place to live by serving happiness.
