Chapter 2

I called my best friend, Manvi, “I had a fight with him; don’t want to live with him anymore.”

“Tell me something new. You both break up every day.”  She replied.

“No, it’s serious this time.” I argued.

“It’s serious every time Naina. You know you can’t stay away from him. Leave it and tell me how are we celebrating your birthday and also plans about 10th May?” She asked.

“My birthday, no plans right now, and about 10th, I forgot, will ask mamma and then let you know. Tell me what you are wearing?”

“Capri, Why but?”

“Idiot, on 10th?” I asked with a grin on my face.

“O god!! Hahaha, I thought you are no more straight, after fighting with Arav, you are hitting on me. I will be wearing that black suit, you remember the one I bought last month?”

“Shut up Manu, I am straight. And yes wear that only, it’s beautiful. I will text you , let me ask mamma first, bye.” I said and hung up.

At the dinner table I asked,
“Maa, you remember Richa?”

“Yes, why?”

“It’s her brother’s engagement ceremony on 10th, can I go please?”

“What will you do there? No.”

“Everyone is going mom, I will be back on time and I won’t be celebrating my birthday this time even.”

“Let her go.” Papa said, I looked at him and smiled.

“Ok but after that no outings, till exams.” She said.

“Sure mamma, thanks.”

As I got the permission I got engrossed in planning about what to wear and I kept updating Aru (he hates when I call him this) on every single detail. (Yes, our fight resolved soon) On my birthday, I was upset; I switched off my cell and didn’t celebrate it. Two days after my birthday was the party we all were planning for. It was our first late night outing and we were too excited. As we were Richa’s close friends, she arranged a car for us to pick and drop.

As I got in the car, we all kept praising each other about how pretty we were looking. I, Manvi, Varsha and Krati were excited as we were meeting after a long gap and it was our first experience.

Soon the car reached venue and we all entered the hall, the hall was full with lot of guests already. Richa’s father was a known politician of our locality so many people were invited, almost half the city. Richa came to receive us, she took us along and introduced us to her family and we gelled with them easily and started enjoying the music and dancing and the starters too.

Suddenly, I saw someone and my heart skipped a beat. ‘Is she really her? Why is she here? What made her come to my city?’ these and so many other questions haunted my thoughts, I was having mixed feelings. When I couldn’t bear more, I asked Richa about her.

“Ohh she? She is my sister-in-law’s relative, her cousin sister I think. Why but? Do you  know her?” Richa asked.

“No, I thought I have seen her before, let it be.” I said and looked away. Soon Manvi came with cold drinks in her hand and she asked me to take the drinks, I didn’t responded as I was still looking at her. Manvi looked at my shocked face and then she turns to look at whom I was staring at. She held my hand and asked, “Isn’t she Surabhi?”  I nodded at her in agreement. “I think I should talk to her.” I said.

“Hey Naina, don’t do this. There is no need for all this, look at me, you will not talk to her ok?” Manvi said quiet worriedly.”  I was confused whether I should talk to her or not, suddenly she saw me, she tried to recognize me and as she did, she started to walk towards me. I stood there almost too freeze to move. I dint knew what was to happen next.
