Surat: SMC (Surat Municipal Corporation) and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce has arranged a workshop on Understanding of RTI (Right to Information) act in Surat in association with Narmad Library. Renowned RTI activist and trainer of the city, Ajay Jangid is going to take the seminar.
The Right to Information Act (RTI) is an Act of the Parliament of India to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens and replaces the erstwhile Freedom of Information Act, 2002. The Act applies to all States and Union Territories of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the provisions of the Act, any citizen may request information from a public authority which is required to reply expeditiously or within thirty days. The Act also requires every public authority to computerise their records for wide dissemination and to proactively publish certain categories of information so that the citizens need minimum recourse to request for information formally. This law was passed by Parliament on 15 June 2005 and came fully into force on 13 October 2005.
You can use RTI act to get any kind of information from Government. The seminar on RTI will cover everything about the act, usability of the act, how, when and where it can be used, etc. This free seminar can be very useful for everyone who wish for a better society and governance. This seminar will also have a Question and Answer session.
