Happy New Year Movie Review

Happy New Year Directed by Farah Khan is her third collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, and of course the hopes are very high, plus it’s a heist thriller with dance and with multiple leading men of Bollywood and  with some superb VFX effects and music that will ring in your ears after you have left the theatre. But does all these things work?

Answer to this question is “maybe”, reason is simple Happy New Year has its moments but it also has moments which will make you take a power nap in between and you won’t lose any story as the movie is 3 hours long. I don’t remember when did I sit that long in a movie recently. Happy New Year is about Charlie played superbly by Shah Rukh Khan and his bunch of friends (Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah, Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone) who plan to steal diamonds worth Rs 300 crores from Jackie Shroff. Everything is done by participating in world dance competition.

Story is lame, so when you don’t have a story all you need to look at is Shah Rukh Khan and his 8 pack abs (which are shown most when there is nothing to concentrate on the screenplay) and then there is Deepika who looks simply stunning. But here she doesn’t need to show her acting skills, she just needs to show her awesome curves and dance. Then there is Abhishek who provides some laugh along with Boman Irani and Sonu Sood. And Vivaan Shah who plays the role of a computer hacker. All engineers out there will get really mad because nowhere in the world a hacker looks like him; and no software is so easy to make.

On the whole it’s Diwali and we have 5 days of holiday and we have nothing to do so why not contribute to Shah Rukh Khan’s bank balance. I am going with 2.5 Bits out of 5 for Happy New Year.
