Digital Vidya, today, announced the acquisition of Digital Academy India. Both Digital Marketing training companies, Digital Vidya operates across Asia while Digital Academy offers training in India. This acquisition means that Digital Vidya will now have an even stronger hold in the Indian digital training market. Though when asked about the size of the transaction, Pradeep Chopra refused to comment.
The advent (pun intended) of digital and social media has brought forth new avenues for the advertisement industry. According to reports from GroupM, a media investment company, out of the Rs 49,000 crore overall advertising spending in India, 9.51% will be in digital advertising. Digital ad channels will also be the ones to show the fastest growth, of about 37%, among all other ad channels. This rise in demand of digital ads means an increasing in demand for talent trained in digital marketing, especially in India. Digital Vidya has seen this and is set to deliver what the market needs. The acquisition of Digital Academy India will play a vital role in this.
Digital Vidya was started by serial entrepreneurs, Pradeep Chopra and Kapil Nakra, both IIT-Delhi alumni. They have trained over 6000 professionals from over 3000 brands across Asia. They offer over 300 digital marketing training programs. The most well know being the CDMM (Certified Digital Marketing Master).
On the other hand Digital Academy India was found by an entrepreneur couple, Aditi Oberoi and Gaurav Oberoi in August 2012; later joined by Anannya Roy Sen as a Senior Partner. They have trained over 5000 professionals in India. Their flagship program is the Certification Program in Digital Marketing (CPDM). The members of Digital Academy India will completely exit the venture after the acquisition.
This is what Digital Vidya’s CEO and co-founder Pradeep Chopra said about the acquisition, “Having Digital Academy India as a part of our family will further strengthen our leadership position in digital marketing training industry. This acquisition will help us expand our reach and further enhance the quality of our digital marketing certification programs for our customers and partners by leveraging the strengths and experience of Digital Academy India.”
When asked about the road ahead for Digital Vidya Chopra said, “Self-funded so far, we are comfortable with funds right now. We, however, will go in for raising funds of up to $5 million by the end of this calendar year. The proposed funds will be utilized for product development as well as expanding our digit marketing training offerings to the US and European markets”. This acquisition seems to be only the beginning of their plans to globalize their company.
When asked about the acquisition, Mahesh Murthy, Managing Partner, Seedfund and Founder Pinstorm said “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Pradeep and Kapil for over a decade. And I’ve been an eyewitness to the growth of their baby, Digital Vidya over the last five years. I’m proud of the fact they’ve now made their first acquisition – and this further leads me to believe that they will rule the market when it comes to training on digital marketing in India – a fast-booming field.”
“Oberoi and team have been instrumental in nurturing Digital Academy and creating strong brand equity. Both the brands will continue to co-exist as they offer uniquely different digital marketing training programs,” Chopra said.
