Auli is a lies in the Himalayan region on Uttarakhand. This is also a lesser known ski destination. If you don’t know how to ski then there are Government certified operators at GMVN that offer beginner skiing course. The kids can play in the snow while you can enjoy the atmosphere and the scenery. Uttarakhand is also called Devbhumi (Land of the Gods) and there are a lot of religious places you could visit.
The Golden City, a World Heritage Site, Jaisalmer is like a live history book. Jaisalmer’s old forts and palaces are a sight you should see at least once in your life. Jaisalmer has a very interesting local transport system of elephants, camels and rickshaw; something your kids would love. You should try the camel safari of the Thar desert, you can opt for a ride on the camel or choose the camel cart if you are concerned about your kids’ safety. At night you will be fascinated by the starlit sky. It’s so amazing you wouldn’t even want to blink once.
Ooty is the best place if you are looking for a relaxing stay at a hillstation. Often called “The queen of hillstations” this place has the best climate for a tropical location. It’s almost like Ooty has spring throughout the year. There are a lot of attractions for kids including the mini-train and pony rides. Sights to see here are the Rose Gardens, the Botanical Garden, the Stone House, the Ooty mountain railway and the Deer park. You can also enjoy a demonstration of honey gathering and bee keeping at the Honey & Bee Museum. The Ooty lake is a great place for boat rides.
Goa is known for its beaches. Calangute beach is a family spot. There are many lifeguards around at Calangute so you can be sure that your kids will be safe. Sea rides and Dolphin seeing are recommended activities for families. If you are adventurous then you can go for water sports like snorkeling and parasailing. The best thing though is to relax under a palm tree while your kids are having fun splashing and making sandcastles. Besides the beaches you can explore Old Goa. It has a lot of beautiful churches and forts.
5. Gir National Park
The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is counted as one of the most important protected areas in Asia. This is due to the species that it supports. The Asiatic Lion can only be found here. Go for a safari in the forest to spot the grand Lions in their natural habitat. Gir will have you feel reconnected with nature. The air here is fresh and the calm of the jungle is relaxing.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Darjeeling is the Himalayan Railway. There are a lot of other things to see here too like the Himalayan Zoological Park and the Mirik Lake. There is a toy train that you can ride from Darjeeling to Kurseong. The mountain sides are always a sight to see, Tiger hill being a good place for that. There are pony rides and cable cars for the kids to enjoy.
7. Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Andaman and Nicobar Islands are separated from the Mainland of India by the Bay of Bengal. So the ride across the ocean can be a different experience. The main attractions of the Islands are the beaches and the sea. You can go snorkeling or you can take a glass bottomed boat to view the coral colonies. The Islands are connected with ferry rides which can be a fun experience for everyone. Port Blair has a lot of different places that you can visit like the Museums, the National Park and the Andaman Watersports complex.
8. Ajanta & Ellora
Ajanta and Ellora caves are classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These cave have some of the most beautiful paintings and sculptures that are found in India. There are shops that will sell you a rare collection of encyclopedias and folk literature for you to read and understand the history of these caves. You can visit the Siddhath Garden, a place of sprawling landscapes and exotic animals. There is also a toy train ride for kids here.
Shillong is a place where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air of the mountains. The Living root bridges are a marvel to see. There are a number of museums here out of which the Indian Airforce Museum is something that the kids would enjoy. Shillong Peak is the highest point in the area and is a great place to have a little picnic. The Lady Hydari Park is also a beautiful place to hang out.
10. Kaziranga National Park
The wildlife at the Kaziranga National Park is so diverse that you cannot expect to see everything in one day. You will also need to bring your binoculars to be able to see the vast number of species, including the Giant One-horned Rhino and the rare Tiger that the National Park has. You can take a Jeep or opt for an Elephant ride to explore the Park. This is a great destination for a family that loves wildlife.
