Football, a game so incredible that it’s unbelievable. Very rightly said by Tom Landry. The fans loved the hammering of Spain by Netherlands and that of Brazil by Germany. The neck to neck competition between Colombia and Mexico was a highlight of FIFA World Cup 2014. Neither can we forget the best free-kick in the football world by the Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos. For all this we thank FIFA every 4 years for organising it safely and smoothly since 1930. FIFA, a not for profit football association was founded to oversee the football affairs owing to its increasing popularity. For years it had successfully organised world cups every 4 years in a particular host country chosen through an exhaustive ballot system by FIFA’s Executive Committee. But only recently 14 members had come into scrutiny of FBI officers for fraud, racketeering and money laundering. Sep Blatter, former FIFA president had won every FIFA presidential election since 1998. The fact that countries had to amend their laws to host a world cup showed the power of money. FIFA’s reserves stand at a billion USD. That’s an astounding number for a so called not for profit organisation. Also, a huge controversy rose over selection of Russia and Qatar as hosts for 2018 and 2022 world cup. The officials are accused of accepting bribes when the whistle blew. It was not blown by Florida but one whistleblower started a chain reaction and the whole controversy came into limelight. Watch this video by Whack which did a good job at spreading the sensitive issue.
