When I decided to start solo travelling, I shortlisted Udaipur to kick start my journey. I made a long list of things to do in Udaipur before heading for the solo trip. Being an art lover, I searched about places I can explore art in Udaipur. But didn’t got proper answers. So I decided to go with the flow. I am listing down 10 things one must do in Udaipur in order you should visit. My list is the odd one on the internet. I haven’t listed obvious tourists places in the list. In stead, I have made a list from my own experience. Have a look.
1. Roam around Fateh Sagar Lake
Two lakes, Fateh Sagar and Pichola are major attraction of the lake city Udaipur. Everything worth visiting in Udaipur are situated around these two lakes. You can start your day in Udaipur with a beautiful morning at Fateh Sagar lake.
2. Shop in Shilpgram Village
After roaming around Fateh Sagar lake, witness art of Rajasthan in Shilpgram village. They have made replica of rural areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa in this little village.
Different kind of huts, arts, artists, cultural programs are the things you will see at Shilpgram village. If you are planning to shop something in Udaipur, you should shop from Shilpgram village.
3. View entire city from Monsoon Palace
After Shilpgram, head towards the highest point of the city. Monsoon Palace which is also known as Sajjangarh Palace is located on the top of Udaipur city.
Witness breathtaking view of entire city from the Monsoon Palace. Ideal place to take photos and selfies.
4. Witness history of Rajasthan in City Palace
After taking selfies at the highest point of the city, now time to get lost in the history of raja- rajwada. Head towards City Palace to witness history of ancient Rajasthan.
If you love history and heritage, City Palace is a must visit place. Visiting entire palace takes two hours. Don’t forget to take a picture of the city view from City Palace.
5. Have authentic Rajasthani food
Enough roaming! Now, time to have the royal Rajasthani treat. Head towards Gulab Baug and ask for Krishna Dining Hall. They serve the Best Dal baati in Udaipur. For 210 rupees, you have all these items (as shown in the photo below) unlimited! Phew!
6. Visit Pratap Smarak
After the heavy meal, now time to take some rest. Head towards Pratap Smarak. Click the statue of Maharana Pratap, know the history and head towards the secret place.
There is this beautiful sitting place at Pratap Smarak, which only few tourists discover. Take rest here for a while to prepare for the next part of your trip.
Don’t forget to click some photos from this point.
7. Take a Boat ride in Lake Pichola
Now, let’s move towards the best part of the city. Around 4.30 PM, reach towards boating in lake pichola. Boat leaving at 5 is the perfect one, if you want to make your day most memorable. Take a boat, which takes you to Jag Mandir Island.
8. An evening at Jag Mandir Island
You will reach to Jag Mandir Island around 5:30, if you took boat leaving at 5. Until 6 PM, take a stroll on the island. And at 6 PM sharp, head towards the right most part of the island (which is the extreme opposite end from city palace).
Wait here for sometime. And you will witness the best sunset of your life. Have a look at the one I captured on my trip.
9. Cultural evening at Bagore Ki Haveli
After witnessing the sunset, move towards Bagore Ki Haveli to witness one of the best cultural programs of your life. Dharohar cultural evening program starts at 7 pm sharp. Make sure you reach Bagore Ki Haveli by 6:45.
I won’t say much. Because words can’t describe this evening. The moment I spent here was one of the best moments of my life. And the last performance – Bhavai by this lady (in following photo) will surely give you goosebumps!
10. End your day at Ambrai Ghat
After the mesmerising performance at cultural evening, end your day in Udaipur at Ambrai Ghat, which is also known as Hanuman Ghat. This is the most peaceful place and the best place to witness beauty of Udaipur in night.
When you are visiting Udaipur next, don’t miss any of these 10 things. If you’ll do all these things in Udaipur, you’ll bless me, I can bet! Wishing you a wonderful journey. Write down your views in comments below.
