The latest offering by Netflix, “13 Reasons Why”, is the hottest series in town- everyone who’s into binge-watching TV series, or were looking to start a new one, or just plain looking to raise awareness, have found their new love. We too, are hooked on and for all the right reasons. Haven’t started yet? Here are 13 reasons why you should see 13 reasons why:

1. It’s based on a book.

Need we say more? I’ve personally read the book and found myself 2 am in the night, crying as I reached the end. It was moving, to say the least!

2. The soundtrack.

Famous for the song “Only You” by Selena Gomez, for those of who follow her, it also has another track “Kill Em with Kindness” on the list. Apart from that, artists like The Call, Joy Division, and The Cure have contributed to the sound of the series. Go check the songs out!

3. Executive Producers.

For Selena Gomez fans (or “Selenators”), need we say more? The TV series also got popular because she is one of the executive producers on board. So, if you like her choice, be sure to look into this one!

4. No more waiting for the episodes.

Netflix released all the 13 episodes of Season 1 on one go, which means all you binge watchers, no more cursing when the episode gets over and waiting for the new one!

5. Depression Awareness.

The theme of World Health Day 2017 is “Depression: Let’s Talk.” So many hidden victims and misunderstandings, it is what the poets currently write about, and what the musicians today sing about. Still, a topic of taboo in India, this series hopes to raise awareness regarding the same.

6. You make an impact.

After watching the series, many people have commented saying that now they are more careful with their words, because they know what a huge impact, those small words can make. Well, if a series can help you see that, who are we to not encourage it?

7. Suicide Awareness.

The writer of the book recently justified the graphic suicide scene, and about how it is a sensitive yet a very practical and realistic situation, one that needs to be in-your-face and no more sweet-talked about.

8. The harsh reality that no one talks about.

No one likes to get into details about something unfortunate that happened. 13 Reasons Why has an in-your-face outlook about that.

9. High-school drama.

Teenagers today are so much more different than the teens five years ago- they suffer from real problems, and as the world shirks from responsibility and knowing, they just carry it deeper and deeper inside until sometimes, it tears them apart. This story tells us what goes into the mind of one.

10. Relatable beyond high-school.

The health issue topics, the ragging, the bullying- these are topics beyond high school, but these are the topics that not even the adults are comfortable talking about! It’s time, don’t you think?

11. Mother Daughter connection.

The series inspired parents checking on their kids, and brought many of them closer. We see the agony of the parents of Hannah Baker, the girl who killed herself, in their eyes. This shows how it affects relationships around you too, especially the ones who love you the most.

12. Cyberbullying.

It is a very real thing, and one that should have been long before shamed into disappearing. But no, still present, it continues to haunt many around us, especially teenagers, whose fickle self-image is controlled by their online presence.

13. 80’s nostalgia.

Not mp3 players or a phone, Hannah recorded the story on cassette tapes. You see Walkmans, and old-school computers, and they make you go down the memory lane.

Also, there might be another season. So, what are you waiting for?
